Journal Entry 1: My Beginning

PHYSICAL EDUCATION: My Beginning

JOURNAL ENTRY 1

Tuesday 4th September, 2018

Physical Education is a course I've had always feared since from a young age due to my self-conscious personality. It was influenced by the criticism I received from other students for failing to execute particular routines and activities perfectly as per their expectations. The experiences gradually became a nightmare to me, to the extent of distancing myself from the course and remained in the classroom. Today, at my respective university, this course made me felt nervous at the moment I walked into the classroom. However, upon meeting the lecturer of this course my fear surprisingly changed into anxiousness and excitement towards the expectations of this course.

The lecturer 'kicks off' the class session by asking students what are their expectations of this course. She listens to some students opinions and continued by introducing another activity that will help students to know more about their peers. Peers must ask each other five questions pertaining to themselves. Following the second activity, the lecturer discussed about Physical Education. The main fact about this course is that it consist of both theoretical and practical aspects.

I researched various websites about Physical Education and found an interesting article explaining this course thoroughly. Researching another site, I developed a definition of Physical Education.

Therefore, Physical Education is an educational process geared towards students of both primary and secondary level of school where specific knowledge and skills are taught for the sole purpose of understanding the development of the human body and implementing the various skills to improve one's healthy lifestyle which promotes personal responsibilities, societal health, environmental health and co-operation skills. It is holistically viewed within a societal context.

This research enlightens my thinking that Physical Education is more than just understanding the physical aspect of the human body. It deals with other issues concerning cultural practices, social aspects and even the mindset of people that shapes them into the individual they are today.
